Little Free Library is about ‘book sharing’, to promote literacy & love for reading along with a sense of ‘sharing’.
The idea is quite simple, take any book but replace it with a different one to be enjoyed by someone else.
LittleFreeLibrary encourages book-sharing and builds community., provides accessible, convenient and inviting spaces for people to exchange books. Our library is open 24/7 and anyone can take a book for free, but we encourage people to donate a book too. We accept all types of books from fiction, to philosophy, marketing, technology, DIY and so much more. Its a great way to connect with our community and share your love for reading. The city is now proud to have its own Free Books Library in Chennai.

Littlefreelibrary.Chennai is a library with a difference. We provide a community library service to our local area. Our mission is to make books accessible to everyone, no matter their background or circumstances. We also have a unique approach to our library service, with our vision holder Jeyakumar bringing his experience as an Engineer, Wire Tree Sculptor, Numismatist, Philatelist, Antiquarian and Hand Casting Artist to the table.

FAQ's
What is the objective of starting this Little Free Library?
The purpose of the Little Free Library is “to promote literacy and the love for reading by building free book exchanges and to build a sense of “sharing” and “reuse” to support sustainability.
Is it mandatory to donate a book to take a book?
Answer is NO. The basic idea is that if you “take a book, leave a book” but leaving a book is not mandatory, it functions on the honor system. You do not need to share a book in order to take one. If you take a book or two from a little library, try to bring some to share with others, to keep the system running.
Can I take more than one book?
Yes you can but we expect that you behave responsibility and ensure that every reader gets a fair chance to take books.
Is it mandatory that I return the book after reading?
Answer is NO, but if you return the book after reading, it can be available for other readers for them to read
What are the operating timings for the Little Free Library?
Its open 24 hours and you can come anytime, its 'self-help' and based on 'trust'. The LittleFreeLibrary is placed outside my house and is accessible anytime.
How do I donate books?
If it’s just a few, you can leave it inside the LittleFreeLibrary box. If there are many, then you may message me over WhatsApp to get an appointment, and I will be available to collect the books in person.
Can you help setting up something similar near my house?
Yes, I can. Contact me over WhatsApp message and we can discuss next steps.
Is your LittleFreeLibrary water proof?
Yes it is, although it’s made of wood it has sufficient water proofing and protection from rain.
